Why Three Ships?
Now is the time to support Canadian brands! Meet Three Ships, a Canadian skincare company founded by two women passionate about creating products with high quality, natural ingredients. Laura and Connie launched the brand out of their apartment in Toronto. Laura is a brain cancer survivor with an incredible story. You can find Three Ships at the Big Carrot, Whole Foods, Detox Market, Coco Market and Jacob & Sebastian. Decided to spotlight this brand because after trying many of their products, I’ve yet to be disappointed. Three Ships has become a staple in my routine so let’s review their best products!
A-List Products
If I could recommend trying one thing it would be one of their creams. Their face creams are all amazing, same with their eye cream. They have four different face creams and this skin quiz can help you choose. My favourite is the Radiance Cream with Grape Stem Cell + Squalane. It’s super hydrating, but not greasy. I’ve mentioned their eye cream previously and will keep recommending them! This was the first eye cream that noticeably brightened my under-eye with consistent use and they recently developed a second bio-retinol formula. Some people think eye cream is an unnecessary step, but it is definitely important to focus on hydrating your under-eye whenever you apply face cream. A specific eye cream is an added bonus if you have the time and budget.
Ingredients of Interest
Their Brighter Days eye masks feel super soothing and hydrating. They come in individual packs and work well before applying makeup, or on those days your eyes need extra TLC. Be lavish and take the extra step if you feel like it. Note their use of unique ingredients like kombucha, MCT oil and tremella mushroom in their products. They have a thorough ingredient glossary on their website as well as other information including research papers, like this one on tremella mushrooms. It’s evident they’re creating formulas that aren’t the same as every other brand in the clean beauty space.
Cleanser, Toner and Serum
Love their water-based Purify Aloe + Amino Acid cleanser. If you’re double cleansing, use this after oil cleansing. Province Apothecary has the best oil cleanser, but you can use a carrier oil like almond or jojoba. Haven’t tried their toner yet, but they have two. Personally I find rose water or hypochlorous acid spray work effectively as a “toner” and would rather spend the money on a face cream. Same goes with serums. If you cleanse and hydrate effectively toners and serums are an added step you can likely skip. That being said, Three Ships has six different well priced serums with many good reviews (over 1000 people on their site love the Dew Drops). I tried the Dew Drops and personally didn’t notice a significant increase in hydration. When using hyaluronic acid (or in this case, tremella mushroom acting as a hyaluronic acid alternative) make sure you apply moisturizing agents immediately after! Tremella mushroom functions similarly to a sponge and increases your skin’s ability to retain moisture.
Final Thoughts
Transparent about ingredients, Three Ships is committed to formulating without silicones, artificial scents, phthalates, parabens, and all the other nasty stuff you could probably do with avoiding. I look forward to trying more from their line and am happy to have found creams that stand out from the rest. The skincare world can be overwhelming. It can be difficult to determine which specific products in your routine are effective, or not. Their product range offers solutions for a multitude of ages and skin types. In my eyes, a brand should have a product for everyone, and it seems Three Ships is well on their way. Visit their website here!
